THE MAIN LIBRARY

The Main Library has a coordinating function for all libraries of the University. It also has a holding function in education and research for the departments within each University Faculty; the Faculties of Letters, Law, Economics, Science, Engineering Sciences, Language and Culture, Health and Sport Sciences and the Osaka School of International Public Policy on Toyonaka campus, also for the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Institute of Social and Economic Research on Suita Campus. The New Main Library building was completed in March 2000, and opened on 1st September.

THE LIFE SCIENCES LIBRARY

The Life Sciences Library, which is one of the most active health science libraries in Japan, was established in 1992 on Suita Campus, as a new branch integrating the Nakanoshima Branch Library and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Branch Library. It has a holding function in education and research for the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital, the Faculty of Dentistry and the University Dental Hospital, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Institute for Protein Research, the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases and the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences on Suita Campus. In 1977 the Nakanoshima Branch Library was appointed as one of the resource libraries in the fields of life sciences by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, and has been allocated a regular special budget to subscribe to foreign serials not recieved in any other library in Japan. The Life Sciences Library is continuing this role.

THE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING LIBRARY

The Science and Engineering Library was established in 1970 as an educational and research library for the technological sciences on Suita Campus, consolidating the former branch libraries of Engineering and the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research. It is also the central library facility for School of Engineering, two graduate schools, several research institutes and joint-use facilities on Suita Campus (School of Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Joining and Welding Research Institute, Institute of Laser Engineering, Low Temperature Center, Research Center for Ultra-High Voltage Electron Microscopy, Radioisotope Research Center, Research Center for Environmental Preservation, Inernational Center for Biotechnology, Center for AdvancedScience and Innovation, Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Cybermedia Center). The Science and Engineering Library coordinates library services for them, and processes their library materials.

THE INTERNATIONAL STUDIES LIBRARY

The International Studies Library, the University's newest library, was former Osaka University of Foreign Studies Library, renamed and reorganized after the merger of Osaka University and Osaka University of Foreign Studies at October 2007. Osaka University of Foreign Studies Library was establised in 1921, and moved to present campus in 1979. Holding abundant collections of over 600,000 volumes, it was one of the nation's top libraries in the fields of international studies and linguistics. Now the International Studies Library continuously serves the educational and research needs in these fields and related sciences in Minoh Campus.
