When donating books to the University of Osaka Libraries, please review the following guidelines carefully.
Please send the completed Book Donation Form (Japanese only) directly to your preferred library along with the donated books.
Books we accept
- We accept books useful for educational, learning, and research purposes that are suitable to be included in a university library collection.
- Donations will not be accepted in the following cases:
- Books already in possession of the University of Osaka Libraries (please check our holdings in advance via The University of Osaka Library OPAC)
- Books not aligned with our collection policy (see Collection Policy for the University of Osaka Libraries / International Studies Library (Japanese only)）
- Books which are damaged, soiled, or books with markings
- Due to limited shelving space, we may not be able to accept all donations.
Handling of Donated Books
- Donated books will be managed at the library’s discretion. Depending on the subject matter, books may be placed in a library different from the one you initially designated.
- Books deemed unsuitable for inclusion in the collection will not be returned, but may be recycled or transferred to other institutions as appropriate.
Please note:
- Please be advised that we will not bear the shipping cost.
- We cannot respond to individual inquiries regarding acceptance status and reasons.
- Receipts for donated books will not be issued.
- For large donations (20-30 books or more), please consult with us in advance.
- If you send a list of the books you intend to donate in electronic format in advance, we can inform you whether we will accept them, but final decisions will be made after inspection of the actual materials. Please include the following details in your list: ISBN, title, edition, author, publisher, and year of publication.
- Due to a high volume of donation requests, please allow sufficient time for us to review and process your donation.
